Community Employment is labour market initiative designed to assist long term (1 year) unemployed people back to the workforce. It is a two strand programme which allows participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful work, gain new skills and experience and access training. St Andrew's Resource Centre's Community Employment project has a total capacity of 95 participants and we currently have vacancies.

The Jobs Initiative programme currently employs 26 individuals in a fulltime capacity in various positions within the organisation and providing assistance in the provision of services within the wider community. This programme is now closed to new entrants.

Training

To assist in the provision of services and to facilitate the personal development of Community Employment participants, the Community Employment supervisors in St Andrew's Resource Centre assist in sourcing appropriate training for all of our participants. Training opportunities for participants are varied and suited to the participants existing skill level as well as aimed at further enhancing their skills.

Training on Community Employment is as diverse as the positions within the building and has included Computer Skills such as ECDL, Manual Handling, HACCP, Catering Skills, Safe-pass, Child Psychology and Childcare, Medical Records Clerk, Bus Driving, Security Skills and Licence, Receptionist and General Administration Skills and CV Construction and Interview Skills.

Participants have also engaged in a number of educational courses ranging from basic literacy assistance, Junior and Leaving Certificate classes and Diploma level. Some have even re-entered Education on full time degree courses. Where we can the Supervisors have also facilitated personal development training and participants have attended classes in flower arranging, painting, photography and other therapeutic endeavours.

Our ultimate aim is to ensure that all our participants conclude their time on Community Employment having enhanced both their professional job skills and personal development and that they continue on their career paths with enhanced confidence and competence.

Those interested in a community Employment placement must meet the Eligibility Criteria as outlined by the Department of Social Protection (for more information click here).
